I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it's such a beautiful animal.

There you go.

General Information:

All applications to adopt go through Curly Tail's standard approval process, which includes a phone interview, reference checks, and a home visit.  This process can take 2-4 weeks to complete.

To request an application, please contact the volunteer listed under the dog you are interested in. There is a $15 application fee.  If you are interested in a dog who does not have a volunteer's email address listed on his or her posting and is still being evaluated in foster care, please do not submit inquires until after we have posted a bio and provided the appropriate contact information for that specific dog.  Your patience is appreciated.

Our Applications Team will guide you every step of the way and answer any questions you may have.  (Submitting an application to adopt does not guarantee adoption.)

Approved Applicants MUST be willing to drive to either NY, NJ or MA to adopt their dogs.  We can no longer transport dogs for adoptions.

Upon approval of your adoption application you will be placed on Curly Tail's pre-approved waiting list.   We strive to make the best possible matches for our rescued pugs and  our adoptive homes.  While making this match we incorporate many factors when selecting an applicant for adoption.  Some of these factors include simply timing, location, current household pets, work schedules and the like.  We pride ourselves in making great matches (while keeping these factors in mind) and having very happy pugs and adoptive parents!

It costs Curly Tail an average of $450 to bring each dog up-to-date with basic vetting (our adoption fees rarely cover these costs nor does this take into account the intense medical cases we take on on a regular basis):
  • Basic Office Visit
  • Spay/Neuter
  • Basic Vaccinations
  • Heartworm Test
  • Fecal Test
  • Giardia Test
  • 2 week Injectible Rx (post op)
  • Basic CBC
  • Deworming (if needed)

Meet Isabel - 8 year old Owner Surrender

Hi there….. I'm Isabel.  A beautiful name for a beautiful little eight year old girl, don’t you agree?  I'm very much a Diva Dog, and would love to have my humans all to myself.  I was surrendered into Curly Tail by my former owner.

Let me tell you all about my royal self.  As I said, I'm quite a Diva, and I do not like other dogs in my castle.  I even tried to bite my foster mom during a scuffle with my four legged foster siblings!  So, as you can see, I definitely prefer to be the Queen of my castle.  Hey, with a name like Isabel, (fit for a Queen), did you expect any less?  Sorry, no cats either… ewee.. icky - I do not like cats and I will chase them away from my throne!

I'm very gentle during meal time (I understand that you are the provider of those tasty morsels and act graciously).  In addition, most of the time I am a very sweet dog.  I love to be pet and snuggled!  (Although I do not like you to touch or rub my face.)  I LOVE to have the back of my body rubbed.  I really like to be near you, and as I sleep on a couch in the living room overnight, I sometimes bark in the middle of the night for my foster family to come give me a cuddle.  But I will go back to sleep quickly.  Yes… I'm a typical Pug - a total attention hog!!!

I'm housetrained, but I may be naughty if you're not watching me.  My foster mom is working hard with me to correct my naughty-ness.  New people, sure, I like to meet new people, just let me sniff your hand first so I know you're a loyal subject!  However, I do not "do" court jesters (a.k.a young children).  I'm very sorry, but I really do not get along well with young children.  I shy away from my 2.5 year old human foster brother.  I won’t hurt him, kids simply are not my cup of tea.  They move around too much!

Do you like Roller Derby?  If so, I am very good at body checking, and I will hip check anyone in my way.  Maybe you know a scout who can help me compete professionally?

As for my Royal Court, I think it's best if it lie in the country, because I don't like loud noises, and I get scared easily.  Also, would it be too much to ask for a human who wants a pup to get so excited when you come home that she cries and can't breathe?  I can hardly contain myself when my humans come home!  Okee… well I guess older kids (in their teens) would be fine, but please make sure they understand that I'm a bit skittish.

I sleep on a royal couch, but would really prefer to sleep with my royal subjects.  As far as barking or whining, nah.. I'm too royal for that.  Toys, nah… I'm not really a toy player either.  I prefer cuddles and back rubs.  If you would like to take me for a walk, I would love to show you how well I walk on a leash.  In addition, if you have a fenced in yard - that would suit me just fine.

Because I love human company so much, if you work part time, or you're home quite a bit, I would be in heaven.  I would be such a loyal companion to you.  In return, I will do things that will make you laugh.  For instance, I like to hop up on the back of the couch and just lay there with my face pushed up against the wall.  I will also scoot myself right on top of the pillow, and I love to lie out quite dramatically sprawled in the sun for a bit of time each day.

Once I get to know you, I'm really a very sweet girl.  I just want to be near you and will follow you EVERYWHERE.  I'm also fine when you leave but will let you know how HAPPY I am when you come home. Thus, if you're looking for the Queen for your castle, please let me know.  All my love, (giving you a bow), Isabel.

Meet Meacham - 9 year old Owner Surrender

Hi there….my name is Meacham!  (Isn’t that such a cool name?)!  I am a 9 year old male Pug, but I act like I'm just 7 years old.  Kinda like getting two dogs for the price of one!  I was surrendered by my owner into Curly Care.

I am house broken and have not have any accidents in my foster home. YIPPEE!!  By sitting next to the door, I will let you know when it's time to take me out.

Allow me to tell you all about myself, my likes, and my dislikes.  I'm a very mellow little man who would love a furry companionship.  I would prefer that she be a bit mellow, like me, as I am very gentle, and a hyper dog would be too much for me.  I don't have an aggressive bone in my body.  I'm very non-confrontational, even if another dog tries to antagonize me.  I'm a lover, not a fighter.  I just want a girlfriend to cuddle up next to.

If you have kids, I will get along with them, but please make sure they are mellow, like me.  Thus, probably children over the age of 10 or so would be good for me.  Kids who are rowdy or rambunctious make me nervous.  My neighbor has a 10 year old human daughter, and I just love her to pieces.  She gives me kisses and I just eat them right up! I'm a bit hand shy at first, but if you let me sniff you all will be good.  I may even tell you what type of cologne you're wearing.  Hehe....well, not really - thought it sounded cute!  Hmmm... what else… oh.. I love to meet other small doggies, so please, feel free to bring me to social events.  I will be very well behaved.  However, I do not get along so well with big dogs.  In fact, I might snarl a little bit if they really scare me.  But other Pugs and small dogs - I can't socialize with them enough!  I'm so mild mannered toward dogs my size that. I'm even happy to share my food and I'll wait patiently at my turn at the food bowl.

Can I be your shadow?  I would love to follow you around the house and just hang out with you.  But don’t worry, I won't get in your way.  I will simply lay on the floor in whatever room you're in.  Heck, I like my space too, so I'll keep a distance and just chill out and watch you.  I also sleep perfectly through the night at the foot of my foster mom's bed.  During the day I like to sleep on the hardwood floor all sprawled out and sometimes in my dog bed.  I am such a good sleeper!

Got kisses?  Oh...I just love to receive kisses on my smooshy face - and hugs.  Also, I'd love for you to talk and just hang with me.  Rubs are great too.  Toys or chew bones… nah.. that is soooo yesterday.  I just mellow Puggy who doesn’t need anything but your love and affection.

My foster mom took me to the groomer and she said I was amazing! I don't bark or whine if I'm ever left alone, and thus, I could live in an apartment or house.  It’s all good for me!!

Now that I have told you all about myself, let me tell you about my perfect adoptive home:  I would love nothing more than a family that could spend time with me - as I really deserve it.  Another Pug would be great but - not a young hyper one - and please no large four legged siblings.  I would really, really enjoy the companionship of another Pug who has a similar energy level to mine.  Also, because I'm low maintenance, I would really prefer to have someone home all or most of the time for human companionship.  I hope you liked reading about me, and that you would like me to come and live with you, because I cannot wait to be kissed, cuddled, and hugged by you.  With lots of love, Meacham.

Meet Augie - 2 year old Owner Surrender

Greetings Pug lover.  Nice to meet you. Yah...I noticed you checking out my studly physique.  How could you not?  I'm simply too adoarable to miss!
My name is Augie (rhymes with "doggie"), and I am an adorable two year old male Pug.

When I first arrived in Curly Care, I was quite nervous.  But after my second day, I realized I was safe and loved, so all was right in my world.  The nice people of Curly Tail have been taking very good care of me and I feel blessed.  I do, however, long for a new forever home to call my own, so please let me tell you more about myself.

I am quite mature for my age, but I love to play!  Sometimes, however, I can be a bit too much for my foster sibling, who is a 7 year old female, and she will snap and growl at me - but I don’t care and I don’t give up easily!

I am housetrained (yippee!), and as for living spaces, I would do well in either a house or apartment, 'cause I don't bark much (that must be the mature side of me).   Even with maturity and a sweet personality I have to admit, I do “NOT” like children, no matter what their age.  Thus… the family who adopts me should be adults only.   You can have other dogs, however, because I do love to play.  But keep in mind that I can be too much for an older dog.

Got kisses?  Ohhh goody...I love to be kissed!  What else do I like?  Hmmmm…I also love walks and to cuddle in bed at night with my human.  Oh the car - I love to go in the car!  Doesn’t everyone like an adventure?  I can be a bit hand shy at first, but if you let me sniff your hand and speak gently to me, I realize that you are OK and not going to hurt me.

I like cats, so if you have one this is fine by me.  I am a good food sharer, and I love to play with toys (you know, tug-o-war, that sorta thing), or chase a ball.  Just think, I can provide you with an nice exercise routine!  See, I am so special!

Now that I have told you what I like, let me tell you the things I don’t like.  (Don’t worry… the list isn’t too long.)  I do not like having my face wrinkles cleaned, and I might snap when having this done.   Also I do not like it when you make sudden moves or make loud noises.  However… with training and time, Curly Tail is pretty sure I will outgrow these fears.  I have been doing very well in foster care, so I am sure with some patience and training you can help me become the perfect Pug.

The ideal home for me would include an active couple that can spend time with me, but not necessarily 24/7. I don’t really have any separation issues and I'm not needy, but I do like the company of older humans, (especially for sleeping - I just love to cuddle up next to them).

My day is pretty normal…  walk, play, nap, and cuddle.   If you think you are my new forever home and live in an apartment or house with “no” children, please fill out an application for me.  I would love to entertain you with my high energy level and good looks!  All my love, Augie.

Meet Homer - 8 year old Owner Surrender

Hello, allow me to introduce my adorable self.  My name is Homer and I am an 8 year old male Pug.  I love kids - and all people for that matter!  I'm a very calm young man with pretty good manners.  I am housetrained, but…. sometimes I will try to be naughty and mark, but a firm “no” will work just fine until I understand your rules.

I am not too interested in playing much with my four legged foster siblings, but if they are cuddling next to me, I LOVE their company.  If another dog does get me to play, I am happy to share my toys with him or her. I am so mellow and easy going!  I even wait patiently to be fed and exhibit no aggression during meal time.  When I first arrived, my foster mom gave me a bath and I just stood there like a good little boy.  Anything for attention!  I am also a dog who only barks outside when it is dark out.  I will let out a couple of noises if I hear someone outside, but I am not “yappy.”

I have a quick with things coming near my eyes.  This tends to scare me and I jump, cry, and breathe heavily.  But if you can work with this small anxiety issue, so can I!

Do you have a park nearby?  If so, I would love for you to take me.  I just love going to the park with my foster mom.  I may get out of breath easily because I am a bit overweight, but I will continue to walk with you.  I should also mention that I LOVE car rides!  When my foster family heads toward the car I immediately run at full speed to beat them there first!

My perfect adoptive family would be one where someone is home a lot.  I really like to have company, and thus I tend to cry if I am left alone for a while.  I am getting better, as my foster mom has been working with me on my separation anxiety, and now I only cry for a little while when she leaves.

I really am great with kids.  My foster mom has a 2 year old who loves to hug me and I just sit there and let him.  I really would be good with anyone who loves a warm, loyal, calm, and affectionate ball of love who just wants to be with you and make you happy (as long as you let me in your bed at night!  Please note:  I like to sleep on my back with my paws up in the air!).

Do I sound like the Pug you would like to adopt? If so, please fill out an application and enter my name, “Homer,” into the dog you would like to have join your family.  Cuddles always, Homer.

Meet Pumpkin - 7 year old NYC Shelter Pull

Hi there… as Halloween is approaching, wouldn’t a Pug with the name “Pumpkin” be very appropriate?  I think so, too!  So this is why I encourage you to read about me.  I am a beautiful 7 year old female Pug who is housebroken (as long as you can keep me on a regular schedule).  Yah for me!

I arrived at Curly Tail because the very nice people here took me out of a shelter in NYC.  I am so happy to be in a foster home!

I do have to tell you that I have a disability.  You see (no pun intended), I am blind, but please… don't let this stop you from reading more about me.  I get along very well with my keen sense of smell and awareness.  Just read this:  I'm a love towards all people, and even though I am blind, I don’t get upset or surprised when someone pets me.  I'm most happy when I’m sitting or laying with someone, and I learn new environments quickly. When I do occasionally bump into something I take it all in stride.  I love to play with people by jumping and snorting (so cute!).  I also love to show my appreciation for your cuddling and hugging by giving you kisses!  PUCKER UP!

My ideal home?  Well, lets see… I would do well in a family where I am preferably the only dog, but I can handle a home where the other dogs are very laid back.  Kids are not a problem, but they should be old enough to understand my disability (blindness - hence the request for children over the age of five). The perfect situation would be for my adoptive family to be able to bring me to work with them. I'm great with new people, and did I mention I also file and know dictation?  (Only kidding of course).

I'm a bit of a Diva in that I really prefer kids over the age of 5.  Also, I prefer to be the Queen of my castle, so another dog in the house would not make me too happy, as I'm dominant, and I will growl if another dog invades my space.  I do not like to socialize with other dogs, but I will tolerate a quiet dog.  If he or she does something that upsets me, I will growl and may snap at the air, but if I know a person is near, I will not do anything more than that.  I do not like to share my food or toys with another dog.  Yah… I am a bit demanding that way.  But I do walk well in a leash, so that is a plus!!

When it comes to going nighty night, I sleep in a crate, even though I might fuss about it (cry or whine) for a few minutes, but then I subside.

Overall, even for my disability (which is simply a chance at having “more” of an ability in other areas like my sense of smell), I'm such a friendly, pudgy little girl.  Dog-lovers cannot keep their hands off me because I just want to be loved! Don’t worry, I'm not a home wrecker either.  Because I cannot see, I will not run around the house.  However… when I want to play I start hopping up and down and wiggling my little behind.  And sometimes when I get over excited, I jump forward without thinking and bump into things. But as I said before, I take it well and will be ready to play once I'm back on my feet!

I'm really just in search of a loving home to spend lots of time with me, and one that can preferably take me to work. I do like walks, so having someone to take me for walks would be wonderful!  Just keep me on a regular schedule and I won’t have any accidents in the house and remember that I sleep in my crate like a good girl.

If you think you can provide me with what I need to continue to love life and to give you lot of kisses in return, please let the nice Curly Tail volunteers know.  Again, my name is Pumpkin.  Pug hugs and kisses, Pumpkin.

Meet Jasper - 3 year old Owner Surrender

Hello there!  My name is Jasper and I am a three year old male Pug who's looking to bring happiness and laughter to a loving adoptive family.  I was surrendered into Curly Care because my owner sadly passed away.  Healthy and active, I enjoy long walks and playing in the yard.  I often run around and play until I’m tired enough to collapse at your feet and snooze on your toes!  Tug-O-War and Fetch are some of my favorite games.  I also have a blast playing with plush toys, which I have no problem sharing with other dogs.  I’ll push a toy against your leg when I want to play.  If you don’t see the toy by your feet, I’ll bark, as if to say “Hey, I want to play with you!”

I’m definitely more of a people-Pug and would do best in a home where I’m the only dog.  I don’t hang out much with my four-legged foster sister.  Whenever she comes over and tries to give me kisses, I run away!  But I would never harm her – or anyone else for that matter.  I’m much too lovable!!

While on the subject of being a lovable creature, I might add I LOVE to snuggle up to people.  I will come up to you and lick your legs or arms when I want to cuddle.  Sometimes I’m prone to doing this when someone gets out of the shower.  It’s one of my quirks!  People who know me also remember my adorable stare that makes an imprint on them the moment they see me!

I’m in the process of being taught how to do my business outside.  Although my foster parents say I need some reinforcement in this area, they’re proud to say I’ve had only a few accidents since I first came to stay with them.  I do well following directions, which makes me a good learner.  This comes in handy especially during my training that's teaching me to walk on a leash.  The learning experience has been a positive one, as I continue to improve in this area.

I’m a gentle eater and wait for my turn at the food bowl during meal time.  Although food does not excite me, too much petting gets me going!  It doesn’t take much for my foster parents to calm me down thought.  What can I say?  I just LOVE the attention!

Remember my adorable stare when you fill out your adoption application!  Cuddles & Kisses, Jasper

Meet Mickey and Minnie - 4 1/2 year old Owner Surrenders

Hi ho, Hi ho, it’s off to an adoptive home we hope to go.  Hi there, my name is Mickey, and my name is Minnie, and we are a bonded pair of Pugs (twice the fun)!  We were surrendered because our owners could no longer take care of us.  However, we found a really great foster home through Curly Tail pug rescue, but yet we are searching for our Magic Kingdom.

We are both 4 and a half years old and are brother and sister.   We are really like Siamese twins, who tend to randomly kiss and lick each other without even knowing it.  Gotta love the love we have for one another!  Thus, we prefer to be adopted together because we would really miss each other.

Of course, like all siblings, we occasionally feel rivalry, but we get over it quickly, even sometimes playing with the same toy at the same time!

Neither of us like hearing animals on t.v. and we will bark at them, so probably best to keep the t.v. “off” during the animal parts.  We also can cause a bit of a commotion around other male Pugs, but with females, we have no problems.  Thus... if you have another dog, hopefully she is a female as this would be best to avoid any problems.

Mickey tends to be a bit more Velcro than myself, (Minnie), but again… you will have the best of both worlds: one Velcro and one who is a bit more confident and who will just hang wherever.

We have only been in foster care for a very short while, but we are doing very well!  Mickey still needs a bit of housetraining because he might try to mark if you are not watching, but me, I'm a lady and I am very much housebroken.

We both enjoy rides in the car, but as when watching Animal Planet, we will bark when we pass other animals on the street, whether in the car or on the sidewalk.

Who needs an alarm system when you have us?  When it's dark out and a car pulls up with a light shining into the house, we will bark, but we get over it quickly.  Thus, we are very good watchdogs.

We both love to meet new people, to take walks, and to go to the beach!  We're also perfectly crate trained and we'll go right in at night without any whining.  We don’t bark much either when our foster leaves the house, (as long as we are crated).

Our current foster home has lots going on, so we have constant company.  This type of home would suit us just fine and we prefer adult companionship over kids, but we do let kids do anything to us!  We really love to play with our stuffed animals, and when it is hot out we will roll over onto our backs on the grass.   Don't you?

Subcompact, that’s us!!  We are maybe 15 or so pounds each and we walk side by side.  What we don’t like, in addition to animals on T.V., are sporting events, but we will settle down quickly.

As the lovely female, I just love food, while my brother Mickey tends to be a bit more picky and takes longer to eat.  We are both, however, very gentle during meal time.   Did we tell you that Mickey’s tongue hangs out all the time?  He is also quite the ladies' man as he really prefers female companionship.

We are really wonderful companions who will simply “fit right in” in the right forever home.  We don’t snore much, and we're patient, and have nice manners.  We get along with each other perfectly 95% of the time and we always keep each other company.   All we really want is our Magic Kingdom, and for it to include someone who is home a lot or works from home, perhaps a fenced in yard, and or someone who likes to take us for walks.

If you think we can be the Mickey and Minnie for your personal Disney World, please let the wonderful people of Curly Tail know.  All our love, Mickey and Minnie.

Meet Cutie Pie - 3 year old Owner Surrender
HOLD

Hi there, my name is Cutie Pie and isn’t it so fitting for such a lovely 3 year old female housetrained Pug!?

I would love to meet you and any and all members of your family.  I just love to meet new people!  I'm a really chilled out, happy-go-lucky dog.   Nothing seems to faze me - kids, other dogs, cats.  I get along with them all.  Of course I have the usual, silly Pug quirks, like following you from room to room and making all sorts of funny noises while I breath.  Personally, my foster family loves listening to my steady snores when I sleeps.  I just love cuddling in people's laps and when you least expect it, I will reach up and try smothering you with kisses.

I am very social, and although most of my interactions with other dogs have been when I'm out walking, I do love other doggies.  I am very polite as I generally wait for them to approach me for a greeting.  With people, I will often walk over to them, sniff them, and then simply wait for a pat on the head.

Got a food dish?  Yes, like all Pugs, I love to eat, but I am very gentle during meal time.

I'm very well behaved and smart, but don’t leave a box of tissues near me.  I like tissues, and my foster mom has caught me a few times ‘methodically’ pulling them out of the box.  Personally, I think there are much worse habits, but my foster mom simply says, “no Cutie.  That is not food,” and takes them away.   This also makes her laugh, as does rubbing my belly, (ohh.. that is a favorite thing of mine), as I will flop on my back, lean my head back, and purr.  See… I think you're getting a 2 for 1 deal with me, cat and dog!

To quote a Shania Twain song, “the vacuum cleaner doesn’t impress me much.”   When my foster mom turns it on, I leave the room.  I also don’t like to be asked to get off the couch to go outside.  But heck, I don’t like missing the ending of a movie!  Can you blame me?  this is definitely something we can work together on.

If you are wondering about aggressive behavior, no need to fret.  I have never shown any signs of aggression.  Sometimes, however, I will do this howling thing at people.  I also walk well on my leash, staying close behind my foster mom, but I will swerve back and forth a little.  Nothing to worry about… hey.. I'm curious, that’s all.

My perfect house (you don’t have to BE perfect, mind you - close to perfect will do), will consist of people who are home quite a bit or work from home.  I just love my humans and will follow them from room to room.  I also love to sleep in a “people” bed.  I may also bark or whine if you leave me alone, but that will subside.  Just don’t leave me on my own for too long (please), as I will miss you.  T

his is definitely something we can work on together.

If you are looking for a really low key pet, I could be the dog for you.   I'm most happy snoozing next to a human on the couch or flipping over for a belly rub. I like to go on leisurely walks, but I can start to pant pretty hard we're out too long.  I'm really super sweet to everyone I meets and very patient, even with energetic toddlers. What's not to love?  I say, go for it, and put in an adoption application for me. “Cutie Pie” is the name, and being an adorable, low key, cuddler Pug is my game.  Always, Cutie Pie.

Greetings!  My name is Lil' Bit, and I am a 3 year female Pug who has a tremendous zest for life!  Did you see that I have my own Curly page, ‘Loving Lil Bit ?  If not, you must check it out.  My personal page will tell you a lot about my background.

I am so lucky to have found my way into Curly Care!!!  The volunteers at Curly have been just wonderful with me, and thanks to them I'm sure I will now be a wonderful addition to your life.
Like I said, I have a zest for life.  I've over liver shunt surgery (which was paid for by Curly Tail Pug Rescue), and I have an awesome foster mom who has taken such wonderful care of me!  She continues to work with me on housetraining reinforcement, but I am catching on, (and I do prefer to eliminate on grass).   Mostly, my housetraining reinforcement is not a behavioral issue, but is because of my medications.  I will go pee about once every 3 hours during the day but will go all night without peeing.   I usually only poop once a day.

My medication cost about $50 a month at the moment, but within two months I should be off ALL prescription medication!!

One of the greatest things about me is that I love to play!  I will play with humans, dogs, or simply by myself.  I really love plush toys and especially my fleece rope toy!  Tug-o-war is my favorite game.  I growl during tug-o-war, but I am not aggressive at all!  I am also not toy aggressive.  I just like to hear myself making growling noises at my toys!  However, I should be watched during playtime, because I do like to chew my plushy toys.

Mealtime:  Yum… did someone say time for food?  I am very gentle during meal time, both with humans and other animals, and I am happy to patiently wait my turn at the food bowl.   When it's meal time, I hop and bark in anticipation - but I am not a barker.  I only eat U/D prescription food twice per day

morning and evening).

If I am fed dry U/D - I get 1/3 cup mixed with warm water to soften.  For canned, I get 1/3 can mixed with warm.  I also love to eat grass, leaves, feathers and whatever else I can get off the carpet.  I take 1 and a half Metron and 2cc's of Lactulose twice a day.  Usually around 8AM then again at 8PM.  I take 1/4 pepcid at night before dinner.  These doses will decrease as I make progress, and thus, you would never know I had surgery.

I am just a crazy little Puggie!

I'm very entertaining to my foster mom!  She laughs at me when I do a 360 degree spin before dinner is served and I love to lick her and her clothes!  Speaking of clothes…. another funny thing I do is to drag jeans, sweatpants, towels, and boxer shorts around the house!  Yeah, I suppose this could be embarrassing if you had company, but hopefully they would laugh with me, not at me.  I will sleep in my own crate or bed, but of course, I prefer to sleep with my humans.

Do you like to sleep in?  Me too!!  I love to sleep late.  My foster mom has to drag my bones out of bed in the morning to feed me and take me out (around 8 a.m.).  I guess I shouldn’t stay up so late watching TV!  I can also be a Diva, stopping to admire my beautiful little self with my tongue hanging out as we pass by a department store window.  Also, I love to have my hair blown dry with the blow dryer on the cool setting every morning!   Got clothes?  I just love to wear clothes - what Diva doesn’t?  I am also a  ruthless "licker."  I just love to lick your clothes.  Need a pedicure?  If so, I'm your girl as I love to lick feet!  I'm not really a face licker but consider yourself lucky if you get a face kiss once in a while.  I should have been a hairdresser because I love to play with your hair.  I love to chew it and when I do I make "oink oink" noises and go crazy!  This can really crack you up!

Add me to Santa’s reindeer list, because my foster mom said when I run, I look like a little reindeer hoping through the snow.  Funny, although I do require a bit of help in the leash department, as I will try to bite my leash when walking.  Got pavement?  Good!  Because  I prefer to walk on pavement.

Unlike most Pugs, I really do not like to be picked up, but I do love to jump up and lay on your lap.   I can also be a bit “head shy,” meaning, if you reach for my head, I will back away, but I have never tried to bite.  Sometimes I can “mouth” like a puppy, but I really am a sweet little girl.

You think you would like to adopt me?  Yippee!!!  Here are some things you should know about my ideal home:   My ideal home either has no other dogs, or, a submissive dog, because even though I'm pint sized, I can be dominant depending on the other dogs personality.  I will also let another dog know when I've had enough of him or her.  Heck, for all I have been through, I think I deserve to be the boss!  Although I still do like to play with other doggies.  Cats are good, and I will bark at my foster mom’s kitty to get him to play with me.  I do not bark or whine when left alone, so I can live in an apartment or house.

I can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but if they let me sniff their hands, everything is great!  I like kids, but it would be best if my forever home has children who are over the age of 5.  I have been very social while in Curly Care, going to meet-ups and other fundraising activities.  Thus, I have developed a real fondness for riding in the car.  I would prefer to sit on your lap while you drive, but  this is dangerous and my foster mom does not allow it.  Although I do not like to be crated in the car I will sit nice on the passenger seat.

The good, the bad, the ugly…. The good:  I am fine with having my ears cleaned, but I do not love having my face washed (my wrinkles) - but I am good enough about it to let you do it.  I am, however, good in the bathtub.  The bad:   I do not like taking meds through a syringe or having my temp taken (I'm sure you wouldn’t like it either!).  The Ugly:  I don't like to be picked up and carried AT ALL (so please put me down. I am happy to walk!).

Whoever adopts me is lucky!  I have been re-born and deserve the best!   This is my time to shine and I deserve to be spoiled!  I am so happy to have found the wonderful folks of Curly Tail.
If you think you would like to be my forever home, please me know.  All my love, Lil' Bit.

Puppies! Puppies! Puppies!

Curly Tail has several pups and young Pugs in foster care & lined up on our waiting list for intake.  While most people think they want or are ready for puppies, they end up in our care when training takes longer than expected and furniture, shoes and the like start getting chewed up.

  • All puppies need to be house trained.  This process is hardest in the 1st 6 months & continues until they are almost a year old.  Usually there is some regression and reinforcement needed in their "teenage" years.
  • Until a puppy is house trained, you need to be prepared to take him or her out to relieve itself every 2-4 hours, around the clock.  (This will vary depending on how far along the puppy is in the training process)
  • Some young Pugs may need to go back to Crate Training 101 even if they are 1-3 years old b/c it wasn't done properly the 1st time around.
  • All puppies need to be socialized.  To socialize a puppy properly, you must introduce him/her to new dogs, people, sights & sounds EVERY day.
  • Puppies thrive with consistency, routines, and positive reinforcement.
  • Consider adopting a puppy only if you have lots of time & patience.

Puppy Applicant Criteria:
(We know that not everyone has a yard and most people have to work)
  • Puppies do best in homes with other puppies or young, playful dogs
  • They learn how to play with each other, house train quickly, inhibit their bites, reduce barking and burn energy better with a playmate
  • If you do work, please have a plan in place (ie/ dog walker) or options, in order to continue crate training & exercising your puppy in a humane & healthy way

Meet Cole - 7 year old Owner Surrender

Hi there!  Are you interested in adopting a 7 year old male Pug?  If so, please continue to read about me.  My name is Cole.

I came into Curly Care as an owner surrender.  I have had seizures in the past, but the wonderful people of Curly and their Vet staff - and my foster family in particular - have worked with me, and I have been seizure free for quite a while now.  The Vet feels I'm a bit "off-wired," which is why I have seizures, and this makes me a bit neurotic, but truthfully, in my forever home, I would thrive and make my family happy. J

I can be very playful but a bit stiff at times.  But this is controlled by medications.  I love to play with my foster sister (tug, chase, fetch) and to sleep curled up next to her!  I also share my toys very nicely. In addition to these favorite activities, going for walks are great fun. I have been described as being the perfect gentleman while on walks, trotting right alongside my foster parents. I am also COMPLETELY house trained.  I do have some mild separation anxiety and can sometimes be a bit vocal when left out of the fun, (wouldn't you??), so my forever home will need a little patience to work on this with me.  This has me cut out for home living as opposed to apartment living.

Food… did you say food?  Where is it?  I LOVE to eat, what else would one expect from a Pug? Because I am such a food hog, it is best to let me eat in solitude.  Because of this, I would be best in a home with children over 5 years old. I would also thrive in a home with another dog, especially one who loves to play!    I do have to admit, as much as I love to play, I am also a bit sensitive.  For example, I don’t like other dogs jumping on me or rough play.  However… if things are getting too feisty for me, I will go off on my own.

I have been very lucky to have a foster family with a fenced in yard.  I would love to continue to have this feature in my forever home. Besides walking and playing, I'm a cuddler.  Of course, I LOVE to sleep in a human bed.  I will fall asleep like a baby, either with my pacifier or with another toy in my mouth.  (Imagine the fun you could have taking pictures of me and sending them to your friends or even posting them on facebook?!)

Do you mind barking?  I hope not, because I do tend to be a bit of barker. Well… okee, so perhaps a little more than a “bit.”   My barking issues will probably be prominent at the beginning of my stay with you, because the changes of a new home, etc., would cause a little barking when you leave for work, for an extended period of time. However… if you have the patience, love and understanding to work with me, I am sure I can adjust.  I really am very much a normal dog, I just bark a lot when I first settle into a new home and humans leave me alone.  And sometimes I seem like I can’t quite decide what I want, so I will pace around a bit.  Also, I can be a little distracted, at times hyperactive, but it’s all part of just being me, as the Vet describes.  I was probably the victim of poor breeding.  But I am undoubtedly a great dog, who does nothing but give love and hope to receive the same in return.

Even though I have had a few challenges, my foster parents say that I am one of the best dogs they have ever known and that I have an ability to make anyone smile, from walking around the house with my tongue out, to sleeping peacefully at your side. I am as close to a perfect Pug as one can hope for and I always is looking to please.

If you are looking for a well-trained, loving, and playful dog with personality, please consider adopting me and giving me a forever home!
  Peace, Cole.

Meet Jake - 9 year old Owner Surrender

Hi there.  My name is Jake.  And what might yours be?  Aren’t I the most adorable 9-years-young male Pug you've ever seen?  I'm obviously not modest.  I'm a “Curly Pug of Summer.”  I made it into Curly Care just in time!  You see… I had bladder stones (very painful!) and the good people of Curly Tail took me in, noticed my pain, and got me straight to their Vet!  The Vet performed surgery to remove my stones and I'm now doing so well now and feeling much better!

I'm housetrained, but because of of my recent surgery I have a few accidents.  So I'm wearing a belly band until I have fully recovered.

Did I mention I have a “double coat!?”  Yeah… how’s that for special?  It was very dirty and covered in dust when I first arrived, but now I'm fresh and clean, feeling good, and ready for the neighborhood.

I have not been in Curly Care for that long and my foster home says that I'm a perfect angel!  I'm always sleeping on the floor at my human's feet, and I just love to follow you throughout the house.  I'm like your little shadow - very affectionate, but not needy.  However… like most Pugs, I will pant loudly when I'm excited and I do overheat easily, so please… be careful with me in the hot weather!  My foster mom has cooled me down several times with cold water and ice packs on my groin after coming inside from the summer heat.

My ideal home would include someone who works from home or is home quite a bit.  I am very low maintenance and prefer to have someone home all or most of the time for company.  A house or apartment would be fine for me as I will not bother your neighbors with barking.  Along with my cuteness comes flexibility.  I would make an ideal companion for an older couple or a family with teenage children.  I'm not a frisky, playful dog suited for small kids, but a distinguished older gentleman who wants to sleep at your feet and have his head rubbed as it rests on your knee.

I've shown no signs of aggression whatsoever while in foster care, and I play well with others, human and furry.  I love to share my toys; am happy to share my food; walk very well on a leash; and am a pure cuddle Pug.

While I'm not a barker, I may cry or whine for a few minutes when it's bedtime.  Speaking of which, I prefer to sleep with human company, and I like to sleep in a human bed. What can I say...I just love my humans!  Do you like a good “Pug snore?”  I hope so, because I have a good one.

I'm a lover, not a fighter, and I tend to shy away from other Pug squabbles.  And I don't like confrontation and tend to retreat to another room, sometimes panting a bit with anxiety if a conflict arises.

I'm the sweetest, most affable Pug you'll ever meet.  I'm extremely obedient, lovable, and I get along just fine with the four other Pugs in the household.  Do I sound like the perfect Pug?  I think so, and I hope you do, too.  I'm ready to be adopted and become your faithful companion.  If you would like to get to know me better, please let the wonderful volunteers at Curly Tail know.  In the meanwhile, I will continue to be pampered in Curly Care and heal from my surgery.  I am feeling so much better now and am just waiting to find my new forever home.  All my love, Jake.
