Adopt A Pug

Application & Adoption Information

TEMPORARY HOLD ON NEW APPLICATIONS
(exceptions: seniors or special needs pug)
hold dates: March 1, 2010

If you are interested in an adult pug (8yo or older), pug mix or a special needs pug in our care, please email: nana@curlytailpugrescue.org

In these cases only, we will waive the application fee and accept new applications.

NOTE: This is due to a high volume of pre-approved applicants and we do not like our pending adoptive homes waiting more than 1-2 months for a pug.

Thank you for your patience and for choosing to adopt.  It TRULY saves lives!!!!

General Information:

All applications to adopt go through Curly Tail's standard approval process - some of which includes a phone interview, reference checks and home visit.  This process can take from 2-4 weeks for completion.

Our Applications Team will guide you every step of the way and answer any questions you may have.  (Submitting an application to adopt does not guarantee adoption.)

Upon approval of your adoption application, you will be placed on Curly Tail's pre-approved waiting list.   We strive to make the best possible match for our rescued pugs and  our adoptive homes.  While making this match, we have to incorporate many factors when selecting an applicant for adoption.  Some of these factors include simply timing, location, current household pets, work schedules and the like.  We pride ourselves in making great matches (while keeping these factors in mind) and having very happy pugs and adoptive parents!

It costs Curly Tail an average of $450 to bring each dog UTD w/ basic vetting (our adoption fees rarely cover these costs and that does not take into account the intense medical cases we take on a regular basis):
  • Basic Office Visit
  • Spay/Neuter
  • Basic Vaccinations
  • Heartworm Test
  • Fecal Test
  • Giardia Test
  • 2 week Injectible Rx (post op)
  • Basic CBC
  • Deworming (if needed)

Thank you for choosing to adopt....it truly saves a dog's life!

Meet Lana - 10yo Owner Surrender
Pending Adoption

Meet Pugsley - 10 yo Owner Surrender

Pugsley is a 10 year old male sweetheart who was surrendered by an owner who could no longer take care of him.  Pugley is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.  Like most older pugs, needs eye drops daily, but he holds nice and still when his foster mom administers them.  Pugsley is house trained.

Pugsley is an easy going guy. He loves to be pet and snuggled and be near his favorite humans.  When his foster mom comes home from work he wiggles and lets out happy little barks. He loves to go on walks, and hiking, off-leash, in the woods is his favorite activity. Pugsley’s is a smart little guy who always comes when he’s called and loves to be talked to.

Pugsley loves female dogs, but has shown some dominance over male dogs so it would be best to place him in a home where he was the only dog, or had a female dog as a playmate.  Pugsley takes a few minutes to warm up to people, but once you talk to him a bit and give him some love he is quick to trust and goes back to being his easy going self.  Pugsley would be best with a firm, loving family that will be dedicated to taking him out on his walks (they keep him feeling young!) and giving him lots of love.

Meet Griffen - 3yo Pug/Jack Russel Mix

Griffin is a young, energetic dog full of personality and love. He is a 3 year-old Jack Russell/Pug mix. Griffin came to Curly Tail as a owner surrender.

Griffen has been fostered by our Curly Staff Trainer where he has blossomed into a very good boy who understands all of his basic commands.

Griffen prefers to eliminate on grass.  Griffin has lots of energy and needs a place where he can run around freely and safely.  Griffen does very well on his leash walks.

Griffin loves to meet other dogs, but he gets a bit on the excited side so its important that he is supervised to make sure that he and his friends are safe.  Socialization is a good thing for Griffen.  Griffin has been doing very well learning not to jump on people, again he is so happy to meet new people he just quite can't help himself, so as his new pet parents it is important to keep up the good manners he has learned in Curly Care.  This goes as well for sharing his toys - Griffin thinks he owns everything!

Griffin loves children and playing with all types of dogs. He will take another dogs toys and make them chase him. After a game of chase or tug-of-war, Griffin loves to cuddle up on a human lap and make a nest under the blankets. At night Griffin will fall asleep under the covers of his owner's bed, resting up for a new exciting day!

Griffin is a free-spirited pooch who wants to love and be loved back. If you want a dog to run with or go on hikes & maintain the manners this eager dog has learned...please email nana@curlytailpugrescue.org

Meet Gretsky - 4 yo Owner Surrender
Adoption Pending

While Gretsky is a healthy four year old boy in every sense of the term but he does suffer from a natural anxiety that is best controlled by a reasonably calm and structured environment alongside the use of two daily anti-anxiety medications that he takes with his favorite---a piece of cheese!

The extent of Gretsky's exhibited anxiety behaviors now include a slight sensitivity to lights and unpredictable movements like birds that he sees outside. He displays his anxiety by barking and spinning around in circles, and looking up at the ceiling. When he gets anxious the behavior can be quickly interrupted and forgotten about by his foster mom simply saying "Gretsky" or walking over to touch him. The second either of the two are done, his attention is quickly diverted to the love of his human companion.

Gretsky is a huge cuddler and is the most submissive and docile pug ever. He gets along with every shape and size animal and the same goes for humans---he lives with three small human children now and he loves them to pieces. Gretsky's idea of a good day is being on the couch lounging next to his foster mom or human siblings watching t.v. after a long walk through the neighborhood. Gretsky is a big sack o' potatoes by 8:00 every night and knows when its time for bed. He functions like clock-work and is perfectly house trained and crate-trained.

Gretsky will make a family very happy but we are truly looking for a family who will maintain patience while he transitions from his foster home to his forever home. He will most likely display exaggerated anxiety during the first few weeks of a new home as he did when he arrived into Curly Tail but once past the hump, he is an angel of a boy to have around and will aim to please!

Meet Cleo & Caesar - 6 yo Owner Surrender

CLEOPATRA - Adoption Pending & CAESAR Adoption Pending

Caesar and Cleopatra are a couple of cuddle buddies who were surrendered by their owners because they could no longer take care of the pair. Both dogs are up to date on vaccinations and are healthy.  They have some food allergies like a lot of pugs do. So Cleo and Caesar are both on a gluten-free diet that is helping keep their allergies in check.  They are not allowed to have table scraps or most dog treats, but they don’t mind since those treats always make them itchy!

Caesar  and Cleopatra are both house trained and love everyone they meet.   They are both very social and great with other dogs.  Caesar is the more playful of the two, and Cleopatra has an adorable cinnamon bun tail and is loving and doting.  Their foster mom says that they are a sweet, well behaved and obedient pair who love kisses, playing and snuggling.  Caesar loves the play tug of war and fetch.

Cleopatra and Caesar would do well with a wide variety of families. They are great with kids of all ages, they are also fine sleeping/lazing about when their home alone.  Cleo and Caesar new family would have to dedicated to their allergy diet to keep them comfortable and itch free.   If you’re looking for a built in pair of pugs, please consider Cleopatra and Caesar.

Meet Wendy - 8yo Owner Surrender

She is sweet gal who is queen of her household.   Wendy prefers that all attention is on her and will gently remind you if she thinks you are not paying quite enough attention to her.

Like all pug royalty, Wendy likes to sleep in a human bed and to make nests out pillows for the ultimate comfort.

Wendy's is getting
glucosamine supplements as part of our Curly Diet.  She hasn't has the right diet or enough exercise prior to foster care, so she needs a bit of assistance up and down the stairs.  All of that will change as she transitions onto our diet & gets used to the play and exercise we give our foster pugs!

Queen Wendy in housebroken and loves to meet her adoring subjects on daily walks. She is mild and mannered so she makes friends easily as she is playful and not dominate. Since ruling a household is tough work, Wendy prefers to cuddle, snuggle, nap on her humans and dine in way fit for a pug.

Please email Nana (nana@curlytailpugrescue.org) if you’re interested in Wendy!

Meet Max - 1 yo Pug/Mini-Pincher Mix - Owner Surrender

Meet Max!  Max is a very energetic and playful 1 year old pug mix who’s looking for a structured yet active home.  Max is healthy, neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.  His foster mom has been working with him on house training.  He’s making great progress but will still need some reinforcement in his new home.

Max is alert, energetic, and mischievous little guy with an adorable snaggle tooth overbite. He loves to be outside running like crazy.  He also thinks its great fun to steal things around the house and have the humans chase him! It’s a cute game, but his foster mom has been working with him to learn to “drop it”!  Once Max has used up all his energy running in the yard, playing with his toys, stealing socks he’s happy to snuggle up with the humans and chew his nylabone.

Max is a very clever and will definitely try and test the house rules and see what he can get away with.  Max would do best in a household with a strong human leader who could continue to work with him on training.  He likes other dogs and would be fine in a house with another dog as long as there was a strong human to show Max who the pack leader was and didn’t allow Max to exert his dominance over the other dogs in the household.   Max loves children and would be great in a household with active, slightly older children.  He still jumps a lot and might scare or knock over a very small child.  We would also like to place Max in a home with a fenced in yard so he has space to run.

Max truly has a combination of the mini-pin personality and pug loyalty and love.  A prospective adoptive family should research the mini-pin breed to learn more about where he came from.  He wants to be right on your lap or next to you.  He will get upset if he can see you but not get to you....it is part of his separation anxiety issues that are being worked on while in foster care.  He needs the security from his adoptive family which will in turn give one the ability to train him.  If he is always upset his anxiety builds and it is difficult to manage and train him further.

So structure, plus patience, activity, tons of love affection and togetherness is all important for his success. The wrong type of structure will not help max set up for success.  The wrong type of structure would be: not allowed on the couch, don't sit on my lap,  get out of that room, sleeping in a different location, or locked up at night would not work at all for him!!!!  He needs the reassurance of love and consistency in his training for it to be successful.  He is very young and smart.  With the right combo, max will be a happy loving companion!

Max is an adorable little guy who will make a very loyal fun loving who will bring you tons of laughs!

Please email Nana (nana@curlytailpugrescue.org) if you’re interested in Max!

Meet Pepper - 10 yo Owner Surrender

Meet Mr. Pugsley a.k.a Sweet P

This gentle sweet boy came to us through
Pug-Peke-Tzu Angels Rescue. Sweet P is a happy boy and loves to zip around in his wheel cart....which was made especially for him when he was in PPTR's care.

Sweet P was originally brought to the shelter to be put down b/c he couldn't use his back legs any longer.
He was rescued by loving people at PPTR b/c after 10 years of being the perfect pug, they felt this just wasn't fair. We couldn't agree more!!!

Curly Tail offered to help out & found him a new foster home where he is the only foster to be showered with love and attention.

He loves to hang out in the quiet of his foster mom's art studio all day.

Both Sweet P and his foster mom & dad couldn't be happier. This smiling boy will remain in Curly Care until he finds a home.

Mr. P is being fostered in MA/Marybeth.
Adoption fee is $200.
