To help Pumpkin, please click here: Patching Pumpkin Update 2.10.10 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Dear Wonderful Pumpkin & Curly Tail Supporters, I want to thank you all again for your kindness and support on this journey to help little Pumpkin. Thus far, we have raised $1,100 for her cause! This is more than I could have possibly imagined and all because of your generosity and dedication to pugs! You guys are phenomenal! Stephen and I recently moved across the river to the Newport/Jersey City, NJ area. We now have more space and Pumpkin has a bigger territory to roam. She's adjusting nicely to her new environment and particularly loving the fact that there are a lot of dogs in the building. She recently befriended a gigantic Labradoodle named Walle...he's such a sweetie. We're still working on potty-training and other than the occasional accident, she's been doing really well! We've been trying to make sure she gets some exercise every day, nothing too strenuous as we don't want to hurt her leg, but she seems to be getting stronger in her back right hip area and putting on some muscle mass. I think having her as strong as possible when she goes in for her surgery will certainly help during recovery. Stephen and I are working with Drea, Kristin, and the Curly gang and hope to have a surgery date soon. We've decided to go forward with Dr. Soloman as he has been a fabulous vet for Curly Tail and really knows his stuff when it comes to pugs! I recently made Pumpkin a Vimeo account and uploaded some videos of her playing with her favorite squeaky Tootsie roll toy. You can see them at: http://www.vimeo.com/pumpkinthepug I am going to upload some more recent videos as soon as I have more free space on the account! Thank you so much again for your support, encouragement, and for caring so much about Pumpkin and all the Curly Tail rescue dogs. Pugs & kisses, Renee, Stephen & Pumpkin Pumpkin’s Story
Curly Tail received a call about a ‘pet store reject’….a 5 month old gorgeous little pug puppy. She was perfect in every way, as many appear when looking through the pet store window at a bunch of playing little puppies. This little puppy was purchased from the pet store and her owners brought her to the vet for her final vaccinations only to find that she had something very wrong with her leg. Once it was determined that she would need an expensive surgery, that the pet store would not pay for, she was to be returned to the store. This would also mean that another sale was highly unlikely and ultimately returned to the ‘breeder/mill’ where she came from. In a case like this, a beautiful puppy like Pumpkin probably ended up in a pet store because of this defect which may have been congenital or the result of a trauma. At 5 months old if no one claimed (or purchased) her….going back to the “so called breeder” would have most likely lead to a horrible and untimely death becase she was now ‘damaged goods’. A reputable breeder would never have sent a pug puppy like Pumpkin to a pet store to begin with…. Curly Tail pulled little Pumpkin and had her xrays confirm that she needed a femoral head ostectomy – FHO is a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur. FHO surgery is performed to alleviate pain. It is a salvage procedure, reserved for condition where pain cannot be alleviated in any other way. Stephen & I are committed to Pumpkin’s safety and care and have built this website just for her. We want to thank Curly Tail for supporting us in every way possible. |
