Curly Tail's Mission is to rescue homeless, unwanted, sick, or injured Pugs. We fully rehabilitate medically needy pugs and/or provide behavior modification to help place them into loving, permanent homes. We have placed pugs throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New England Area, Rhode Island..... often as far as Maine and New Hampshire! We are a multifaceted organization: Through our R.E.A.C.H program (Rescue Education Activism Change Hope), we rescue pugs in need and strive to educate the public about the pet population control problem and its simple solutions. This is a movement happening all around us. The goal is to bring awareness about the sources of animal abuse, irresponsible breeding, and neglect. We act as animal advocates to effect change regarding domestic animal population control. We pledge our unwavering commitment to help end Puppy Mills. We work together in harmony to bring hope where there once was none.
Curly Activists are involved in the lobbying for legislation that would regulate large-scale dog breeders and pet stores with the goal of cracking down on abusive Puppy Mills. We support legislation that proposes the following:
•Create a Dog Breeder License Act, which would prevent breeders from
having more than 20 unaltered (not neutered or spayed) dogs.
•Prohibit people from obtaining a dog-breeding license if they have been convicted of a felony animal-cruelty crime, including dog fighting. •Require dog breeders to keep dogs in buildings without wire flooring and with sufficient heating, cooling and ventilation. •Require pet stores and breeders to provide potential pet buyers with the dog’s full medical history, information of spaying and neutering, and information about any prior medical care. Humane Society officials say that many dogs from Puppy Mills end up having substantial medical problems because of interbreeding and exposure to disease in cramped environments. •Establish penalties starting with fines and escalating to having animals seized and breeding operations shut down. Curly Tail has become a part of the Best Friends Network through the Best Friends Animal Society in order to lobby against pet stores that sell puppy mill puppies. Best Friends is a grassroots effort stepping up to reduce the number of pets bought and sold, and to increase adoptions from shelters and rescue groups. Together we can help millions of dogs living in breeding facilities around the country. "Purchasing a pet from a pet store is contributing to the pet over population problem.....we want to help people understand that these animals are the BLOOD DIAMOND of animal welfare." (Click the image below to learn more about this campaign) Curly Tail's Volunteers are a group of diverse individuals who have come together for the sole purpose of rescuing Pugs. We have agreed to donate our various talents so that the pugs in need can live their lives with comfort, love, and care. We are a non-profit with all volunteers and no paid employees. Each person contributes in the way best suited to his or her lifestyle and individual skill set. Our Curly Teams & Volunteers are ever-developing based on the unique ways our members can give of themselves to the organization & to the Pugs. Curly Tail's Website was developed to reflect of our spirit as people, our approach towards rescue, and the dedication to the pugs in our care. Videos, pictures and frequent updates are posted to help our supporters feel involved and share in as much of the process and our experiences as possible. We want people who need to surrender their pugs to know our organization's processes and commitment to providing the best possible care. Our website shows the work that we do, our drive, our dedication towards rescue, and our commitment to this organization and the people & Pugs that need us. Curly Kids was created because we believe
in young volunteers. We had not had the opportunity to experience a
youth program in any of the rescues we volunteered with before.
Children and young adults have an open, nonjudgmental way of looking at
things. They are eager to help the pugs in our care and are amazing
with our special needs pugs. We feel strongly about nurturing these
childrens' interest and hope one day they will continue in our
footsteps, support rescue, and continue to spread the message about the
proper treatment & care of animals. We enjoy this part of our
rescue as much as the children and Pugs do! Being a Curly Kid is a special thing and we make our Curly Kids feel very much a part of our rescue. Curly Tail Blog was created to help people follow our group and get updates sent to them directly about successful adoptions, news, important updates, fun facts, product information, and special cases that have come into Curly Care. Our Curly Blog is a great way to keep up with what's new in CTPR. We are proud of the way
we have developed this organization and the goals we strive to
achieve. We have determined that our common welfare as people and the
welfare of the Pug breed must come first. Our founders are trusted
& compassionate volunteers. There is no power
structure for the sake of having power. It is a volunteer program, with a sound business structure, designed to provide the best
possible care for pugs in need. We treat each other with respect and professionalism. Curly Tail is incorporated & in the process of obtaining 501(c)3 status.
We are proud to be an APO of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC and a member of the New Hope Partnership. Curly Tail Pug Rescue
We find beauty in the most
incomprehensible places and otherwise
homely faces. It's our gift to see beyond
the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat to
find the true soul that lies within....
we are a rescue
