Otys was originally fostered in CT, but within a week, started refusing food and water, urinating blood and clots, and was rushed to the Emergency vet in CT. They found a raging urinary tract infection, to the point that Otys was unable to pass urine.
Otys was immediately moved to NYC to be seen by our Curly Tail vets, was admitted into Intensive Care.
Poor Otys's heart rate dropped to 60. His gums were gray, he had shallow breathing, his saliva turned thick like glue and we thought we were losing him. We honestly did not think he would survive the night.
At the CVC, Otys was given fluids and oxygen which bought us a couple hours to run tests. A catheter was used to help drain urine and see if his kidneys were able to produce new urine on their own.
The tests revealed Otys was septic and toxins were backing into his kidneys, which began to fail.
At this point the doctors were trying to reverse renal failure. IV fluids and medications bought us more time.
Otys spent one night in ICU and the next 2 days were overnight care without Oxygen and IV's only.
After three days, Otys was released to his foster mom's care.
Otys was emaciated, with open areas on his useless foot. His foster mom has brought him back from the brink of death.
He has since gained a little weight, and is on a schedule of feeding and toileting. The one thing we know about Otys is he is a fighter, a sweet and affectionate boy who deserves us to not give up on him.
We won't give up, if he won't give up.
Otys's medical bills from his two ER trips have cost $6,740 to date.
